Your Role as a Volunteer Traveler
Volunteer travelers participate in community projects while also exploring Uganda’s diverse landscapes, cultures, and attractions. Depending on the project and travel itinerary, activities may include:
- Supporting community development initiatives.
- Assisting schools and educational programs.
- Participating in community outreach activities.
- Supporting environmental and conservation projects.
- Helping with local improvement and social development initiatives.
- Taking part in cultural exchange activities.
- Supporting responsible tourism and community-based tourism.
- Participating in organized cultural and adventure excursions.
- Learning about local traditions, lifestyles, and Ugandan communities.
All volunteer activities are conducted in partnership with local organizations and communities, with guidance from experienced VolunteerLink Africa staff.

A Typical Week
Volunteer travel programs generally combine structured volunteering with cultural and travel experiences.
A typical week may include volunteering from Monday to Friday, followed by cultural activities, excursions, or free time. Some programs may include weekend trips to Uganda’s national parks, cultural sites, towns, and other destinations.
Your schedule may include:
Monday – Friday:
Community volunteering, project activities, cultural exchange, and local experiences.
Evenings:
Free time to relax, socialize with fellow volunteers, or explore the local area.
Weekends:
Optional excursions, wildlife experiences, adventure activities, cultural tours, or personal travel.
Schedules may vary depending on the selected program, project requirements, and travel itinerary.
Accommodation
Volunteers stay in comfortable shared accommodation with fellow international volunteers and, where appropriate, other local participants.
Accommodation may include:
