Your Role as a Volunteer
Volunteers assist local conservation teams with a variety of environmental and wildlife initiatives. Depending on the season and project needs, responsibilities may include:
- Supporting wildlife monitoring and conservation activities.
- Assisting with habitat restoration and tree planting.
- Participating in environmental education programs for local communities and schools.
- Helping with biodiversity surveys and data collection.
- Assisting with park clean-up and conservation campaigns.
- Supporting community-based conservation initiatives.
- Promoting responsible tourism and environmental awareness.
- Participating in sustainable environmental projects that protect natural resources.
All activities are carried out under the supervision of experienced conservation staff and in partnership with local organizations.
Who Can Join?
We welcome volunteers from around the world who are:
- Environmental and wildlife conservation students.
- Biology and ecology students.
- Nature lovers and wildlife photographers.
- Gap-year travellers.
- Individuals aged 18 years and above with a passion for conservation.
No previous conservation experience is required. Enthusiasm, physical fitness, adaptability, and a willingness to work outdoors are the most important qualities.
A Typical Week
Wildlife Conservation volunteers generally work Monday to Friday, with some early morning or weekend activities depending on wildlife monitoring schedules and conservation projects. Free time is available to relax or explore Uganda’s natural attractions.
Accommodation
Volunteers stay in comfortable shared accommodation with fellow international volunteers. Accommodation includes:
- Shared bedrooms.
- Kitchen and dining facilities.
- Wi-Fi access (where available).
- Safe residential environment.
- Comfortable communal areas for relaxation and socializing.
Meals or self-catering facilities are provided depending on your selected program package.
Explore Uganda
Known as the “Pearl of Africa,” Uganda is one of Africa’s top wildlife destinations. During your free time you can:
- Trek endangered mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
- Track chimpanzees in Kibale National Park.
- Enjoy wildlife safaris in Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, and Kidepo Valley National Parks.
- Visit the source of the River Nile in Jinja.
- Experience white-water rafting, kayaking, and boat cruises.
- Explore Kampala’s cultural attractions and vibrant markets.
- Take weekend trips to neighbouring East African countries including Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and South Sudan.
